In-House Legal Director - Real Estate - Greater East London (3-4 days Remote)

A leading UK mixed-tenure developer with a market value of over £2.5 bn. is seeking a Legal Director to lead a team of 8 lawyers and 14 conveyancing and legal support staff, based in Greater East London. The legal team primarily focuses on the acquisition of land, the sale of land parcels to third-party developers, Registered Providers and private rental entities and the sale of build complete dwellings to end-users. Litigation and claims are managed separately. This role offers great working from home options and a fabulous newly built state-of-the-art office. 

The Role
You will work closely with the Commercial and Development teams where you will manage both the internal legal team, the appointment and management of the Group’s panel of legal advisors, managing a legal budget that is reset each financial year and reporting to management on pertinent matters. Additional legal services will be required to ensure the acquisition of land, the sale of land parcels to third-party developers, Registered Providers, private rental entities and the sale of build complete dwellings to end-users. Litigation and claims are managed separately.

The Candidate
Must be a UK Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a minimum of 10 years PQE and relevant Real Estate Legal experience, preferably gained as an in-house counsel, with a strong background in real estate development agreements. Must have a natural ability to express legal concepts in a clear and pragmatic manner and advise senior business leaders with confidence. Ideally, some depth knowledge in conveyancing and housing laws gained in the UK market would be advantageous. Part of this role will expose you to a range of commercial, privacy, transactional and compliance work. Must have legal team management experience to be considered for this role.
