Senior Legal Counsel - Privacy

Our client is a global payment solutions provider looking for their next Senior Legal Counsel to join their rapidly growing business.

Sitting within the regulatory, product and data legal team, the person in this role will be responsible for the following:

* Advising on regulatory matters including compliance with the GDPR, European payments regulations and their equivalents
* Help monitor compliance and data practices internally to ensure the business and its functions align with the applicable requirements under the GDPR and data protection laws in applicable jurisdictions
* You will support the development of our data governance function and related procedures
* Implementing measures and a privacy governance framework to manage data use in compliance with the GDPR, including developing templates for data collection, assisting with data mapping, and vendor management reviews
* Produce and maintain a variety of internal policies and compliance related documents
* Work with outside counsel to help advise on local data privacy law issues across jurisdictions
* Collaborate with all core functions within the company and with the Data Protection Officer
* Lead staff training, data protection impact assessments and internal audits
* Work with key internal partners in the review of projects and related data to ensure compliance with local data privacy laws, and where necessary, complete and advise on privacy impact assessments
* You will help put in place and improve existing processes and support the business in launching new products, with an eye for regulatory and data protection matters
* You will advise on novel and complex issues and provide clear advice on legal and commercial issues and risks
* You will monitor new legal and regulatory developments and consider their impact on the business
* You will carry out research on various multijurisdictional regulatory and data protection issues
* You will help the business continue to expand internationally; researching and evaluating new territories and providing creative, proactive and results orientated advice


The ideal candidate will have a mix of the qualifications below:


* Senior experience within a compliance, legal, audit and/or risk function, with strong experience in privacy compliance, ideally in a regulated industry
* Strong background advising on the GDPR and global data protection matters
* Data Protection and/or Privacy certification such as CIPP, CIPT
* Experience in developing policy and compliance training
* Previous fintech, payments, software, e-commerce and/or bank experience (is desirable but not essential)
* Experience working in a start-up or other fast-paced and dynamic environment (is desirable but not essential)
* Experience working internationally and on a variety of cross-border matters (is desirable but not essential)
* Additional language skills (is desirable but not essential)
* Law qualification with strong data protection post-qualification experience either in-house or in private practice (is desirable but not essential)

The successful candidate will also have:

* Excellent time management skills and experience managing a diverse workload and challenging stakeholder demands
* Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as needed, flexing the approach as the matter requires
* Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate and explain complex legal issues clearly and concisely
* Passion for new challenges and skilling up in different areas of law
