Corporate Insurance Associate (5-6 yrs PQE) - Cayman Islands

We have been consulted by an offshore Magic Circle firm to assist them in locating a corporate lawyer with considerable insurance experience for what is an exciting opportunity to carve an individual niche within their Cayman office.

Our client’s insurance practice group is arguably the largest on island, which has seen it instructed on an increasing number of major international and cross-jurisdictional transactions, as Cayman's position as an insurance and reinsurance hub strengthens.  This has been identified by the firm as a significant area of growth and they are therefore keen to appoint an individual who can ultimately lead this practice area in Cayman, long-term.

To be considered, applicants will have solid experience working on large, cross jurisdictional reinsurance transactions on the buy-in and buy-out side, representing global reinsurers, cedants, investors and sponsors of reinsurance entities. Technically strong with the ability to analyse complex information, you will be commercially aware and pragmatic when faced with changing circumstances.  

As part of the greater Insurance practice group, you will also provide transactional support on reinsurance contracts across a variety of business lines, including property and casualty, health, pension risk transfer and longevity risk.

The successful candidate must be familiar with reinsurance contracts, the different types of treaty reinsurance contracts such as excess of loss, quota share, surplus and facultative reinsurance and modified coinsurance agreements. The role requires the candidate to work collaboratively and closely with colleagues across practice groups and global offices.

Furthermore, the incumbent will also be expected to take a prominent position with regards business development & marketing initiatives and be comfortable taking responsibility for client relationships.
