Funds Lawyer – Shanghai, China

Our client is a leading offshore law firm with an expanding and highly rated Asian practice.

In response to sustained deal flow they are keen to appoint their first funds lawyer in Shanghai to advise and support local investment funds businesses, working in tandem with the broader transactional team. The successful applicant will be seen as the subject matter funds expert for the office and help maintain / develop the Asian service offering in this key transactional area for the firm.

Responsibilities will include advising clients on how to structure new funds, assisting on the preparation of the fund launch documents, advising on offshore funds regulatory requirements and conducting due diligence on fund structures.

Key qualifications & experience includes:

• Demonstrable investment fund and common wealth experience, ideally including fund formation, downstream investments, capital markets and corporate finance, including structuring, maintenance of open and close ended funds, i.e. hedge funds and private equity funds
• 2-5 years PQE with a common law background (England & Wales, Australia, New Zealand
• Postgraduate degree from a reputable law school
• Good level of English and fluent Mandarin sought
• Ability to generate regular new business, contribute to success of firm, cross reference clients to other services within the firm when necessary
• Build and maintain client relationships as a client contact
• Manage multiple matters while taking accountability for performance
