Criminal Law Solicitor - Doncaster

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Criminal Law Solicitor to join a leading Doncaster law firm into their well-regarded Criminal Law department. In this role you will advise clients of the firm on criminal law matters, working predominantly in the Doncaster/South Yorkshire area but with occasional work in the Nottinghamshire area too.

The Person

You will ideally:

• Have previous experience of advising clients on a range of privately and publicly funded criminal law matters;
• Have experience of representing clients at the police station and conducting your own advocacy in the Magistrates' court (Higher Rights qualifications and experience in the Crown Court would also be advantageous);
• Be committed to providing the highest level of client care at all times;
• Have excellent interpersonal, organisational and time management skills;
• Be able to work in often high pressured circumstances, often under tight timeframes;
• Be a qualified solicitor with excellent previous experience in criminal litigation (duty solicitor accreditation would also be desirable);
• Have experience of billing on criminal litigation matters and be confident working with a variety of IT packages and software;
• Be able to work independently and as part of team; and
• Be keen to progress and professional develop within the role.

The Role

• Advise clients of the firm on a wide variety of criminal law matters, remaining committed to achieving the highest levels of client care at all times;
• Run your own caseload of criminal law matters, meet with clients and provide representation when needed at court and the police station (working outside of office hours when required);
• Have responsibility for the client's case, advising them from inception to conclusion. Regularly liaising with the client and any third parties in order to progress the case together with preparing any legal documentation required and negotiating on behalf of the client;
• Utilise the case management system to track and manage the client's case;
• Assess clients for public funding and representation and deal with all associated legal billings;
• Keep up to date with all relevant legislation and case-law and undertake legal research when needed in order to support the client's case.
