The Research Legal team is based at CRUK’s headquarters in Stratford, London and comprises seven solicitors, a contracts manager and three professionals who manage a sizeable patent portfolio and the post-signature management of a large volume of contracts and other commercialisation activities that CRUK concludes, through its commercial subsidiary Cancer Research Technology.
The team operates as an integral part of CRUK’s Research & Innovation Directorate and plays an important part in supporting CRUK’s aspiration to achieve 3 in 4 cancer patients beating the disease by 2034. CRUK is the worlds-leading independent funder of cancer research and as well as support for CRUK’s research funding activities in the UK and internationally, the team’s work is pivotal to the research partnerships with academic and commercial funders and the licensing of intellectual property rights to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
We are looking for a either a Solicitor or Senior Solicitor with experience in providing commercial legal support within the Life Sciences sector. Our Solicitors provide expert legal support to Cancer Research Technology (CRT) across the full spectrum of activities and make a significant contribution in relation to the management and delivery of the legal function within CRT. Candidates must have a thorough understanding of IP rights in the life sciences sector. We also welcome candidates with this experience plus experience of start-up formation and growth with life sciences experience.
The main difference between the Solicitor level and Senior Solicitor level is experience. As a Solicitor we're expecting you to be qualified and have good working knowledge of intellectual property law (particularly patents), company law, competition law and the regulatory environment relating to pharmaceutical product development. We will support you with your development as you build up your legal skills. As a Senior Solicitor we expect the above experience to be significant and you'll already be operating at a Senior Solicitor level. We will support you with your continuous professional development however you will be able to work independently and use your experience to support the development of Solicitors and others in the team.
