Contract: Permanent

A unique and career defining opportunity to lead on major investigations to enforce consumer protection law, drive high standards by traders and secure strong outcomes for the public.

About the CMA

The CMA has an exciting and challenging agenda – to contribute to faster economic growth, deliver positive competition outcomes and make markets work well for consumers, businesses, and the economy.

The CMA’s consumer protection team carries out high-impact consumer protection law investigations to address key areas of actual and potential consumer detriment.  The work we do is both complex and high profile and must be delivered to exacting standards, ensuring a fair process for the parties concerned, including where necessary through litigation.

The role

As a Director in the CMA's Consumer Protection Group, you will lead major investigations into potential breaches of consumer protection law and other related projects (including guidance, advocacy, and international partnership projects). You will be responsible for leading multi-disciplinary teams, setting the overall strategy, and ensuring the delivery of high quality legally robust and timely outputs. You will consider the wider impact of our work, including means by which the CMA can ensure compliance messages reach the widest possible audience.

This role will involve managing and developing staff, including building staff capability through recruitment, coaching, learning and development, mentoring and effective performance management. As a member of the CMA’s senior leadership team, you will also contribute to the wider corporate leadership of the CMA, ensuring that the CMA is a great place to work for our staff.

What we are looking for

Proven experience of leading and motivating multi-disciplinary professional teams is essential. You'll also require significant experience of working in a senior project delivery role in consumer protection, competition, economic regulation or related policy field or as a professional adviser/ investigator/ lawyer/ litigator with substantial experience of delivering complex cases.

In return

The CMA is a hugely rewarding, diverse and stimulating place to work – an opportunity to work for the public good and to stretch and develop yourself in doing so. All CMA staff enjoy generous benefits, including an excellent pension scheme, at least 25 days leave (increasing to 30 over five years), and generous parental leave provision. You can also take advantage of interest-free season ticket loans, a cycle to work scheme, and favourable consideration of flexible working.

The CMA are fully committed to being an inclusive employer and ensuring equal opportunities. It is a priority to make our workforce as diverse as possible, and we welcome applications from under-represented groups, including ethnically diverse people, people with a disability, and people with diverse gender identities.
