NEW 2021/2: It would be obvious to say the currently trend re the global market and with it the legal market is changing, whether it is the current situation, AI, law firms floating, law firms getting larger or more niche, so this is an understandable time to carve a career out within business as opposed to private practice. In addition, the current economic and political situation is uncertain - obvious, I know, with current affairs ongoing! It goes without saying that a Junior to Mid-Level IN-HOUSE role (likely up to 8 PQE) is a rare role indeed. First thing, you will be local to the M3-M4 area and/or be commutable to it. You may also have plans to move there - that is also fine. The working arrangements, though are helpfully 9am-5.30pm (and very likely home-working now), this is a corporate / commercial role so being near to the business has its obvious benefits when busy. This is a Counsel level role and is largely a ‘doing’ role for a mid ranging lawyer, with successful candidates expected to ‘roll their sleeves up’ and ‘get on’ doing the work. There ARE serious promotion opportunities and this business is also Global.
Although there is none of the usual business development experience (or pressure) needed, you will be expected to hit the ground running and have a good level of corporate or general banking or commercial contract experience. Tax experience, though not necessary, is useful to this company.
