Saudi Arabia is a G20 economy and is going through a tremendous amount of change as the Kingdom diversifies away from oil production and seeks to implement Vision 2030 and the National Transformation Programme. It is a very exciting time to be a lawyer in the Kingdom!  , Regulatory and Public Policy practice, with its own dedicated team, remains the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This team is at the forefront of advising Saudi government entities and their consultants and suppliers on strategic mandates to revise and update legislation and benchmark it against legislation around the world. They regularly advise most ministries, regulators and government entities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on policies, regulations, rules and guidelines. They are also very active advising various government entities on the establishment of special regulatory zones in the Kingdom, for example NEOM.  The team has won the prestigious IFLR Saudi Arabian Law Firm of the Year award, having scooped this for all but one of the past fourteen years since the inception of this award. You will be working in the Public Policy & Regulatory Team alongside two counsel, seven other associates and led by leader in the field.  You will work on leading and often landmark projects for top tier government and institutional clients. Key Responsibilities: The role has an emphasis on project management and as well as direct exposure to government and institutional clients, you will have the responsibility of overseeing each project along to its successful conclusion. You will supervise other more junior members of the team and work closely with the other counsels. You will be involved in drafting assessment reports, bench-marking exercises and gap analysis on behalf of various government ministries and agencies and policy formulation along with drafting the English version of the legislation. A key part of the role is coordinating with the other global offices around the network to bring in specialist knowledge, and you are encouraged to build a personal network of specialists that you can draw upon. The variety of work is very broad and can involve truly imaginative ideas and concepts, often looking to examples/precedents of international best practices. Skills & Experience: The position would suit an outstanding senior level qualified lawyer with a minimum of 10 years’ experience and international experience. Whilst experience in governmental affairs, policy formulation and regulatory experience and/or working with network offices/across borders is required, experience in a specific field of law or sector is not essential. • It is essential that you have excellent project management skills and a proven track record in managing projects internally and client relationships. • You should be able to demonstrate extensive experience in (or aptitude for): Running or managing cross-office exercises such as benchmarking exercises, for example, including drafting, reviewing and analysing benchmarking reports. Managing and supervising teams on projects. Drafting memoranda of advice for clients and presenting to clients. • Previous experience of drafting policies and legislation is essential. • You should demonstrate strong communication and analytical skills and a high level of commercial awareness. • You should desire client exposure and responsibility, and the opportunity to nurture and develop your own personal client relationships. • You should demonstrate the ability to manage and supervise teams and to work closely with counsels, senior associates and partners. • You should also have a genuine and demonstrable interest in, or affinity for, the Middle East.
