Our Organisation

The Football Association (The FA) is the governing body of football in England. We are responsible for promoting and developing the game at all levels; from grass roots through to the professional game, The FA Cup and the England International teams, and has two core assets: Wembley Stadium and St George’s Park.

The Role

To provide proactive legal support to The FA Group across a full range of contentious, regulatory and risk issues.

Key Accountabilities

  • Delivering robust legal advice in an efficient and effective manner to The FA group, including all football regulatory matters.
  • Protecting the organisation from litigation and reputational risk.
  • Providing support to the Head of Legal (Football Regulation & Litigation) on rule and regulation changes and leading on drafting as and when required.
  • Providing legal and disciplinary support to the England national teams.
  • Advising on FIFA/UEFA regulatory matters.
  • Providing advice on player status issues, transfers and agents.
  • Taking the lead role on all contentious brand protection and IP litigation matters across The FA Group.
  • Dealing with insurance issues affecting The FA Group.
  • Supporting the Head of Legal (Football Regulation & Litigation) with the allocation of work and running of the team, including the provision of guidance, support and training to other lawyers and the trainee within the Legal Team.
  • Executing any additional tasks required in order to meet Legal Team and FA Group changing priorities.

What we are looking for

Essential

Knowledge

  • At least 5 years working as a qualified solicitor however candidates with relevant skills sets regardless of post qualification experience may have the required technical skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a breadth of relevant contentious legal knowledge gathered in a major law firm and/ or corporate.
  • Excellent academic record.

Experience

  • Experience at a corporate law firm.

Technical Skills

  • High quality written legal advice.
  • Ability to demonstrate clear and concise written and oral legal advice.
  • Ability to demonstrate the application of robust legal advice in a practical manner.

Desirable

Knowledge

  • Sports litigation.
  • Media law.
  • Employment law.

Experience​ 

  • Working in-house or on secondment at a sports organisation.
