Head of Competition Lawyer, Partner – Merger Control/CMA Focus – US Firm to $1.2 million
Unusually, although the firm has a decent and well-respected mid-tier M&A practice, the quality of the competition practice means that the firm is often asked by their clients to co-counsel on high-profile merger control matters. Due to the reputation of the practice and quality of the 70-lawyer competition team, the partners have seen an increase in the number of CMA investigations hitting their desks. The firm has a number of multi-national corporate clients which are regularly involved in merger activity; these clients are prevalent in the telecoms, aerospace, media, healthcare, transport, chemicals, food & consumer goods and agricultural sectors. Many are US-headquartered and incredibly active across a number of international jurisdictions.
The Brussels directories-listed competition team works closely with the US lawyers, but its key CMA lawyer is moving to a regulator and this has given the firm the opportunity to initiate a long-standing strategy to establish a competition practice in London. The firm would like to hire a lead UK partner to establish and build a team in London. The firm presents a number of advantages: the chance to access a significant US and European client base (last month over 50% of matters opened in the London office were referrals from the US); join a growing, market-leading team; join a firm which prides itself on the geniality of all its members and which is financially secure and prudently run (the firm hit its cash revenue budget for 2020 with two months to spare).
