Subhead: Life-changing law

HMCPSI is currently recruiting for Grade 7 Lawyers on a fixed term basis.  The appointment will be for a period of 2 years. The appointment may be extended or made permanent during the 2 year period.

When it comes to crime-impacting work, few organisations can match the Government Legal Department. The level of expertise that we bring to legal processes ensures that the population are safer, and that they can have confidence in the quality of our judicial system – which drives a better quality of life for everyone.

The HM Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate (HMCPSI) is at the heart of the criminal justice system. With a focus on making the prosecution service better and more accountable, we inspect the work of the Crown Prosecution Service and Serious Fraud Office. Acting independently of both organisations, we share our expertise, finding evidence of good practice and highlighting any issues that need addressing. And in the process, we enhance their strategies and activities so that they can be even more successful in their nationally-important remit.

Join us as a Legal Inspector, and you will be at their heart of this fascinating challenge. Undertaking assessments of prosecution decisions, you’ll analyse case files, evidence and performance information, and make sound judgements on the quality of the resulting legal decisions. Talking to people from a wide variety of backgrounds, you’ll use your own life experiences to get to the heart of every challenge. And in the process, your inspection reports and recommendations will drive a culture of continuous improvement in the legal system.

This is a chance to further your knowledge, in an inclusive team that works innovatively to ensure the ongoing quality of prosecution services. After a period of support and training, you’ll lead your colleagues in inspections, so the scope to further your career is exponential.

It’s vital that we are able to relate to everyone we come into contact with, so we need to ensure we have a workforce of diverse talent. Further enhanced by lifestyle-friendly hours (this role is open to job-share, part-time and full-time applications), you’ll find an exciting opportunity with us – in a team that celebrates everyone’s differences and life circumstances.

For an ambitious and highly analytical Barrister or Solicitor with at least three years of post-qualification experience, plus a sound understanding of criminal law, this is your chance to shine. Please visit gldcareers.gov.uk for more information.
