Legal and Governance Advisor
With over 70,000 members, The British Psychological Society is the professional body for psychologists in the UK and the largest psychology community in Europe.
We are seeking an experienced legal practitioner to join the Society to support the legal work of the Society.
The British Psychological Society is a long established registered charity, incorporated by Royal Charter which advances the discipline of psychology and its professional application. We are currently embarking on a significant change programme aimed at modernising the Society to ensure our work as a dynamic professional body.
This role is a FTC to cover maternity leave. It will be a challenging one and will appeal to an ambitious professional who is experienced at drafting commercial contracts and seeks a broad based role with varied work.
This role supports the work of the Chief Executive’s office and of the Head of Legal & Governance to whom the post holder reports. The successful candidate will be a qualified solicitor with strong technical knowledge of charity law and corporate governance. We are looking for a professional who has strong interpersonal skills and who is able work across inter-disciplinary teams on projects with the ability to provide quality and solutions focused advice to external and internal stakeholders.
The post is currently home based but it will be located at our newly refurbished office in Leicester. We offer flexible working and a range of competitive employee benefits.
The successful candidate will have:
- A law degree or equivalent qualification
- Be a qualified solicitor
- A good understanding of charity, business and employment law and charity and corporate governance
- Excellent written communication skills including minute writing and proof reading
- Experience of working in a charity (desirable)
- Experience of working in a membership organisation (desirable)
