Legal Positions at PRS For Music
It is a great time to join the Legal team at PRS For Music.
Our Legal team of 23, is highly regarded in the UK music industry and internationally. We are specialists in our field and have huge experience of copyright matters but our work is much broader: we advise PRS on rights issues, complex commercial and litigation matters, as well as managing corporate transactions all in a challenging regulatory and compliance landscape. We’re a rights-based business and the Legal team is central to strategy. In the past 5 years we have established a market leading joint venture following a Phase II merger clearance, taken strategic litigation against a number of digital service providers, invested heavily in GDPR compliance, successfully defended large copyright tribunals and worked closely with collecting societies around the world to ensure the value of our members’ rights.
We are looking for 3 new team members to join our team, in the following areas:
Head of Legal
A new Head of Legal (full time) with a generalist corporate/commercial background and a keen interest in legal operations to help us run an effective team. This role looks after our corporate and international matters: experience setting up and operating joint ventures is a plus, as is international experience of contract negotiation (we advise on issues across the globe). An interest and understanding of copyright and broader IP would be a strong plus. This position has multiple direct reports and would suit someone with management experience or looking to make their first step up to a broader management role.
Lead Counsel – Technology and Innovation
A new Lead Counsel for IT and Innovation (part time). This is an exciting opportunity for a senior level job share (2-3 days per week). The role involves providing legal support on high value and complex IT projects as well as advising on a broad range of other commercial agreements.
Lead Counsel Litigation
A new Lead Counsel for Litigation (full time). The role would lead on cutting edge copyright litigation, including work on high profile infringement claims and rate disputes. We face and resolve challenges across all areas of music rights, including music and video streaming services, social media, broadcasters and public performance. The management of PRS for Music’s Rights Protection Unit will involve collaborating with others across the UK and international music industry on anti-piracy measures, and other initiatives to address the emerging threats facing the legitimate online market.
