Job Details

The Company:

Sellafield Ltd is responsible for the safe and secure delivery of decommissioning, reprocessing and nuclear waste management activities on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). From cleaning-up the country's highest nuclear risks and hazards to safeguarding nuclear fuel, materials and waste, as site license holder our mission is nationally important.

The company operates from offices in Whitehaven, Cumbria, Warrington, Cheshire and Sellafield, safely delivering multi-million pound contracts to the nuclear industry. The Sellafield site alone is home to over 10,000 staff and in addition currently manages a yearly supply chain spend of around £1 billion.

The Role - Junior Regulatory Lawyer:

This is a new role created to further development of the Regulatory Team's delivery of high value legal support to an evolving business in a complex environment.

In the short term the immediate focus is in assisting the Head of Team on specific regulatory matters, and learning about the business and industry. Longer term, under the direction of the Head of Team, the Junior Regulatory Lawyer role will develop to encompass their own diverse caseload of regulatory and compliance legal matters, in addition to supporting other members of the Regulatory Team when required.

Candidate Requirements:

Applications are invited from lawyers with some existing regulatory experience however we would also like to hear from lawyers who are keen to make the transition to work as a regulatory lawyer in the nuclear sector. Key is the right individual for the team and the business rather than a particular experience level.

As an in-house role this position requires an excellent ability to deal with a wide range of stakeholders across the business, and to apply good client relationship management skills: a desire to be business-focussed and to demonstrate a clear enthusiasm and passion for the business. In addition, you should demonstrate a 'can-do' attitude and a preparedness to take on work in new areas in which you may have limited or no existing technical expertise or knowledge.

The role of Junior Regulatory Lawyer can be based with the Legal team in Birchwood, Warrington or Whitehaven, Cumbria. Travel to other sites will be required.

Benefits:

This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-profile business and to carve out a successful career within the organisation. You will be rewarded with a competitive salary and benefits package, and the opportunity to maintain a sensible work life balance in a collegiate work environment.
