Associated British Ports (ABP) is the UK’s largest and best connected ports group handling around one quarter of the UK’s seaborne trade and contributing £7.5 billion to the UK economy every year. ABP’s 21 ports, together with the other transport-related businesses that constitute the ABP Group, form a UK-wide network capable of handling every conceivable type of cargo. It is backed by investment in modern facilities and equipment and supported by experienced staff. The Group’s activities cover transport, haulage and terminal operations, ship’s agency, dredging and marine consultancy.
This high profile corporate, headquartered in Central London, is now seeking a lawyer to join its existing team. This is a pivotal role which will report into the Group General Counsel and work closely with the wider legal team and business. The role will involve acting as a key adviser to ABP’s ports on key commercial contracts and day-to-day business.
The successful candidate will have between 1-5+ years’ PQE* and broad corporate/commercial experience gained from a leading law firm, preferably coupled with a secondment or other in-house experience (though not essential). In addition, IT or procurement expertise would be highly beneficial. Excellent academic qualifications (2:1 minimum) are essential, as is experience of drafting and negotiating a wide range of contracts.
This is a broad role with the opportunity to be involved in managing disputes and advising on a wide range of other commercial matters which may include IT, employment, environmental, competition, property, procurement and a variety of port related work.
You must be commercially astute, persuasive and personable in order to gain credibility quickly at all levels within the organisation. Strong communication skills are crucial, as is a positive, flexible and constructive approach to problem solving.
This is a truly exciting opportunity to join a leading UK corporate committed to growing its business and developing its employees.
