The Legal Counsel – Data will be a key member of the UCL’s Legal Services Team and will be responsible for providing advice on a wide range of legal matters relating to the University. These include providing legal advice on data related issues across the breadth of UCL’s activities including: privacy, data-sharing, drafting, reviewing, negotiating and advising on agreements containing information law provisions, drafting and advising on complex data-protection related documentation such as data processing agreements, data transfer agreements, privacy impact assessments, advising on Freedom of Information issues, advising on data and Freedom of Information related policies and processes, developing and delivering training and guidance on data related issues, working closely with the Data Protection Officer and information security governance team on risk and compliance related issues.

The Legal Counsel – Data will report into the Legal Counsel (Alex Hall) who in turn reports into the Director, Legal Services.

The successful candidate is required to have experience dealing with a range of legal issues on a self-standing basis and a willingness to take on new tasks in unfamiliar areas and to react confidently and quickly to emerging issues.

The candidate will have up to date technical knowledge, excellent analytical skills and sound judgement, and demonstrable experience operating and influencing at senior management level.
