In the North West market roles with sports bias can be hard to come by as it is often the preserve of boutique firms who operate with small teams who in turn tend to stay.

As a result it is fair to say that this is a rare find.

The firm is indeed a boutique commercial and sports practice but one which has held that clear focus for several years now alongside a strong reputation.

In terms of the level, ideally this would sit at NQ-4 years PQE but there is an openness to be flexible at either end. Whilst there can be consideration given to NQs, realistically it will likely be those that have qualified recently with a clear commercial background.

The role itself is working in close conjunction with the lead partner on a range of sporting specific matters. This can include Football Clubs’ Intellectual Property contracts, Players Image Rights, Players’ transfer and contract negotiations, Licensing and trade mark work and endorsements across a number of sporting areas including football, rugby and boxing.

As is often the nature of Sports specific work the range of matters one can be involved in is varied – the firm have (with external support) working on large cases associated with tax investigations and contentious proceedings between manager’s and clubs and beyond so you will need to have an agile approach to work and be open minded to undertake both contentious and non-contentious matters.

It is not necessary to have worked exclusively within sports in order to be considered though ultimately you must have a clear and demonstrable reason for wanting to do so. That being said, the transferable skill set must equally have come from some degree of commercial specific discipline which has required commercial agreement drafting.
