Your new company
An executive non-departmental public body (NDPB), responsible for marketing Britain worldwide and developing Britain's visitor economy. It works with UK Trade & Investment as well as airlines, travel operators, global brands and the official tourism bodies for London, England, Scotland and Wales. They are currently recruiting for a General Counsel and Company Secretary for an initial 6 month period.

Your new role
As the General Counsel and Company Secretary, you will encompasses the overall responsibility for Legal, Corporate Governance, Data Protection and Procurement for the organisation, including the UK and offices overseas. In particular, as well as being responsible for all Legal affairs impacting the organisation, the role includes the roles of Data Protection Officer, Head of Governance and Head of Procurement. You will be responsible for the provision of comprehensive legal advice, especially contractual advice, drafting, checking and monitoring contracts. Plus providing legally sound solutions to problems to the Boards, Executive and staff to ensure that exposure to risk is minimised. As the Company Secretary, you will be responsible for attending all Board and Committee meetings. Morever, you will be a trusted advisor to the organisation, building and maintaining relationships across the organisation to develop a clear understanding of business needs.

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this role, you will be a fully qualified solicitor or barrister with significant experience of no less than 5 years of advising senior internal stakeholders. You will have a full understanding of the regulatory framework in which NDPBs operate and will have specialist knowledge of law in publishing, intellectual property, consultancy, advertising, competition law, public procurement, landlord and tenant, employment, company, Data Protection/Freedom of Information, contracts, civil procedure litigation rules and the ability to instruct external lawyers (when necessary). Finally, you will be able to demonstrate competency to act as the organisation's designated Data Protection Officer as well as the organisation's Company Secretary.
