We are an entrepreneurial Fin Tech Group based in Cheshire. This is a challenging role working in a fast paced entrepreneurial business that offers great variety and potential for the right candidate to really make the role their own.

We are looking for an experienced in house or private practice solicitor to provide commercially focussed and pragmatic advice to the board of directors and our senior team.

Ideally you will have a minimum of 4 - 6 years PQE and will be a focussed and passionate individual looking to further develop your career in an exciting and innovative sector.

We are keen to hear from individuals with recognised data protection knowledge, ideally gained in-house however, we will consider experience in private practice. You will have excellent technical knowledge and ability and equally important, you must be commercially aware with outstanding inter-personal skills with the ability to develop and influence key stakeholders.

Reporting into the Group Compliance Director the successful candidate will also undertake the role of Data Protection Officer within the business. 

Key Skills and Responsibilities

 

  • Researching and advising on a range of legal matters such as, commercial law, trademarks and copyright, IP, the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018), and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as it applies in the UK, ecommerce, advertising and marketing, employment law, litigation, corporate M&A.
  • Researching and investigating issues in international territories and managing relationships with key advisors overseas.
  • Reviewing and drafting a range of commercial contracts with suppliers and partners (often from a regulated financial services perspective).
  • Managing contract termination and resolving contractual disputes.
  • Drafting consumer terms and conditions.
  • Researching and keeping up to date on various regulatory and legal changes across the UK and international territories and updating, the board, senior team and relevant stakeholders with relevant and digestible information.
  • Providing training material/running sessions to enhance key stakeholder knowledge across the group where necessary.
  • As Data Protection Officer you will be responsible for informing the board/senior team and organisation about the businesses obligations to comply with DPA 2018 / GDPR and other data protection laws.
  • You will work with the Compliance team to monitor compliance with the DPA 2018 / GDPR and other data protection laws, including managing internal data protection activities, advising on data protection impact assessments (DPIA) and legitimate interest assessments (LIA), overseeing and when required conducting and reporting on audits.
  • To be the first point of contact for supervisory authorities and for individuals whose data is processed.
  • Experience of working in regulated financial services is also required.
  • Knowledge of FCA handbook and application of rules, guidance, TCF and Principles is essential.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage a busy workload autonomously in a fast paced environment.
  • A confident communicator with excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to manage key relationships at all levels. 
  • Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present information effectively.
  • Experience of risk management, with the ability to highlight and manage risk successfully whilst ensuring commercial opportunities are maximised.
