Location

Burges Salmon, is based in Bristol’s city centre 2 minutes stroll from Temple Meads train station. Here, you will be in the heart of Bristol with easy access to some of the best attractions the city has to offer, including the theatre, shopping, restaurants, museums and art galleries.

Team

The non-contentious corporate restructuring and insolvency team forms part of our wider banking practice and regularly works with specialist lawyers from other departments in the firm. Ranked Tier 1 by both Chambers and Legal 500, we have an "extremely strong" (Legal 500) restructuring & insolvency team with extensive experience across a wide range of sectors including: renewable energy, real estate, pensions, retail, leisure and the public sector.

While the team is based in Bristol, most of our work originates in London and the rest of the UK. For cross-border matters, we work closely with our preferred firm international network. We are active members of R3, INSOL, INSOL Europe, IWIRC and the TMA. Clients include:

Work

Our corporate restructuring and insolvency team routinely advises a variety of stakeholders on complex domestic and cross border matters. We advise on distressed refinancings, corporate restructurings, distressed M&A, contingency planning and insolvency matters for clients including corporates, sponsors, distressed investors, banks and non-bank lenders, pensions trustees and insolvency practitioners.

You will work collaboratively, in partnership with your clients and form your thinking around their needs to ensure we deliver the right solutions when it matters. You will combine your legal expertise with in-depth knowledge across a range of industry sectors to secure the right outcomes for our clients.

You will work as part of a collaborative team and are comfortable with taking instruction or leading others. You will actively continue to improve your technical skills, your understanding and application of the professional standards with the support of the Leadership and Development teams.

Requirements

We look for individuals who have developed themselves and their capabilities, coupled with strong commercial and legal potential and relevant experience. You will have recent and relevant work experience gained from a firm with a strong banking/restructuring & insolvency practice, together with a sound commercial understanding of the market.

You should have non-contentious experience of working on a range of domestic and cross border restructurings, be familiar with finance documents and have a good understanding of insolvency proceedings.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a growing restructuring and insolvency team that forms part of, and works closely with, our wider banking practice. You will be a strong team player, able to manage a complex and varied workload effectively, and demonstrate a willingness to learn and be self-motivated.
