We are looking for a Competition Lawyer to join our highly regarded Competition team.
Team
We are one of the UK’s leading Competition practices offering expert advice and representation before competition and regulatory authorities on antitrust investigations, cartels, abuse of market power, behavioural and compliance issues, and merger control.
We work with our litigation team on contentious matters, and deliver commercial and innovative solutions for our clients.
We are ranked by Chambers and Partners as the sole firm in Band 1 for Competition Law outside London. Chambers describes us as a ‘Market-leading team based in Bristol… Highly esteemed by clients for its assistance with both contentious and non-contentious matters.’
Work
Our work includes:
• Defending clients subject to cartel, abuse of dominance and other competition investigations
• Advising clients on market studies and market investigations
• Representing clients on merger control investigations before the CMA and European Commission
• Advising clients operating in regulated sectors, in relation to competition and economic regulatory matters
• Advising clients on the application of competition law to commercial agreements, joint ventures, strategic alliances, business strategies and conduct
• Devising compliance policies and programmes, audits and training
Recent highlights include advising Co-operative Group on its merger with Nisa; Yeo Valley on the sale of Yeo Valley Dairies to Arla; Arora on the CMA’s investigation into airport parking at Heathrow; a main party to the CMA’s cartel investigation into design, construction and fit-out services; and major transport operator Abellio on the EU merger filing relating to its acquisition, along with its JV partners Mitsui and East Japan Railway Company, of the West Midlands rail franchise.
Requirements
You should be willing and able to manage your own cases day to day and to supervise team members with less experience while still being part of a supportive and collaborative team.
You will need excellent academics, coupled with evidence of experience at a leading law firm in non-contentious and/or contentious competition law. A desire to contribute to serving our existing client base and developing our market leading practice will also be important.
You should also be a strong team player and be able to manage a complex and varied workload effectively. You should have business development experience and, the ability to work with and adapt to a wide range of clients.
Whilst by no means a prerequisite, a postgraduate qualification in competition or economics, and/or experience in regulatory or economic matters, would be advantageous.
