COMMERCIAL LITIGATION PARTNER - LEEDS

Our client is a well liked regional commercial practice with a full spread of services to large businesses (including plcs) and also private clients. The firm has experienced massive growth in the last 20 years and enjoys good visibility in the Yorkshre market, and has been particularly successful in appointing lawyers from upstream big-firm backgrounds to the partnership.

They are now looking to recruit at partner level to their Commercial Disputes team in Leeds office, where they already have a Partner in situ but wish to increase that senior end capability for the benefit of the clients and also the team. Technical expertise across a broad range of commercial disputes is taken as read, but beyond that they need someone who is committed and career focused and keen to immerse themselves in this firm wholeheartedly.

You'll work in close co-operation with other partners in litigation and across other teams, pushing the brand, and extending high level expertise and client service to existing clients and new ones. Anyone right for the role is most likely going to be able to demonstrate a track record in business development, and you'll be someone with good people skills who has invested time to date in client relationships and building your network and personal brand as far as your employer has allowed. In firms such as this personality is important as regional clients are not placing work to a panel, and are not driven by procurement teams or blue-chip protocols. Rather the business owner, MD or FD is going to instruct a lawyer with whom they have a connection, a relationship, and who they trust, so every partner in this firm needs to be prepared to invest something of their personality into their role.

In terms of size of appointment, it is likely to be someone of 10yrsPQE+ in order to have the technical competence and confidence required to operate autonomously, and ideally that person will have experienced life in a larger national brand so as to be familiar with best practice. A lateral hire of an experienced partner is perfectly possible if that person has the gravitas and business case to justify that. Alternatively there quite possibly will be a Legal Director or Senior Associate who wants a step up to partnership and who would arguably already be a partner if they were with a regional firm as oppose to a national brand.

Remuneration will be competitive, and the firm are totally committed to making an appointment.
