About the role

Reporting into the Head of Legal Affairs, the Legal Counsel will support the Digital Wallets business, which is currently based across London, Dublin and Sofia. The Legal Counsel will be primarily focused on providing legal support on the business's new third-party payment services of the Group and Open Banking legal matters.

Key responsibilities

  • Providing general and commercial legal and regulatory advice towards the business
  • Drafting and negotiating commercial agreements with existing and new suppliers
  • Supporting and advising the business teams on the applicable legal and regulatory framework in the relevant territories
  • Advising the business on the legal aspects of new product development and new product delivery channels
  • Instructing and managing external legal counsel in numerous international jurisdictions
  • Undertaking a range of research projects to include international regulatory research, contractual matters and regional data protection and privacy laws
  • Addressing any other general or ad-hoq commercial legal queries from internal business stakeholders

Key requirements

  • Qualified lawyer with at least four years' post-qualification experience, ideally within an in-house environment, although this is not essential
  • Proven experience of providing commercially focused legal advice, as well as experience in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements
  • Experience in the following areas would be advantageous: banking, open banking or financial services regulation, gambling regulation, card-scheme rules, e-commerce, intellectual property and data protection/privacy
