Our client is a Mayfair based emerging player in the private capital / direct lending market. They currently specialise in providing capital to European corporates, providing cost effective access to capital, which they raise from securitising the loans in the fixed income markets.
Following a recent investment from private equity, the business is building a management team in London, which will act as a central hub for the planned expansion. They have recruited an MD and FD and are currently looking for a General Counsel to support the growth plan.
The role will involve setting up the legal and regulatory framework for the business. This will include providing strategic legal and compliance advice to the senior management, negotiating and drafting key commercial and transactional terms, advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of expanding into new geographic markets, as well as "business as usual" issues such as employment, data protection etc. As head of legal and compliance, the role will also act as CF10 and 11.
The transaction management of the originated loans and securitisation of the loans will be done by external counsel, managed by the GC, so familiarity with either lending or structured finance would be an advantage, although is not a pre-requisite.
We are looking for a commercially minded and adaptable lawyer with experience of managing the legal function within a comparable financial services business.
