Civil/Commercial Litigators

We are looking for civil and/or commercial litigators to join our busy specialist litigation practice.  We undertake a substantial amount of international and cross border civil and commercial litigation ranging from contract and trust disputes through to insolvency.  In addition, there is a large amount of regulatory work and litigation avoidance, which is a developing area of law on the Island.  As well as undertaking international work we have a heavy domestic case load of litigation, which spans across the entire scope of Court work.  We offer high quality work with ongoing training and development.

We are looking for candidates who have a background in civil and/or commercial litigation with good case and time management skills and who are team players.  Candidates will also possess excellent communication skills, first class drafting ability and experience in the preparation of Court documents.  Advocacy experience would be beneficial, but not essential, provided there is an ability to develop the necessary skills.  The role would suit either a barrister or solicitor, as the Isle of Man operates a fused profession.  Ideally, we would be looking for candidates interested in qualifying as a Manx Advocate, in order to obtain rights of audience before the Isle of Man Courts.

A competitive remuneration package is available, commensurate to experience.  We encourage a positive work life balance, professional development and there are excellent long-term prospects.

About the Isle of Man

The Isle of Man is an internally self-governing British Crown dependency located in the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland.  The Isle of Man is an established international finance centre with a secure base built upon political stability, economic independence, low taxation and a firmly established fiscal and regulatory environment.

The Isle of Man is a low-tax jurisdiction, with a 0% corporation tax for most types of corporate income, and a maximum rate of 20% for income tax payable by individuals. There are no capital gains taxes, inheritance taxes, wealth taxes or stamp duties in the Isle of Man.

The Isle of Man is a separate jurisdiction to the United Kingdom and as a result has its own legal system. The principles of the Manx legal system are based on English common law and the Island follows very closely the precedents set by the English Courts and the Courts of other commonwealth countries, if there is no conclusive Manx precedent already established. However, Manx law has also developed to fit the Isle of Man’s own needs and circumstances, particularly in relation to tax, company law and financial supervision issues.

The Isle of Man’s legal profession is regulated by the Isle of Man Law Society. Legal professionals qualified in the Isle of Man are called Advocates. Advocates fulfil the roles of both Solicitors and Barristers in England and have exclusive rights of audience in the Manx Courts.
