The Opportunity:

WeWork is seeking a Privacy Counsel to join our global compliance team within the legal department. Sitting in London, UK, they will work with the Regional General Counsel and report to the Senior Counsel (Technology, Privacy, & Cybersecurity) based in New York. The Counsel will help implement WeWork's privacy program throughout Europe, Israel & Australia.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess and advise WeWork business partners on a broad range of privacy, technology, and cybersecurity matters
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to mitigate privacy and security risk
  • Conduct risk assessments and internal investigations
  • Draft, negotiate and advise on data protection agreements, terms of service, privacy policies, and other contracts and communications
  • Serve as an advisor to various internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with global privacy and cybersecurity requirements
  • Ensure and track compliance with the GDPR and other data privacy laws
  • Evaluate and respond to data subject requests (e.g., request for information, clarifications, rectification or deletion of personal data)
  • Drive WeWork's data stewardship and collaborate on complex privacy and interrelated regulatory issues
  • Assist in executing training for both business and legal partners on the application of privacy-related laws, regulations, and standards that apply to WeWork's businesses
  • Counsel and advise WeWork's Digital, Information Technology, Sales, Marketing, Procurement, and Community teams on product-related legal issues questions and requests
  • Draft clear, consistent disclosures and terms to enable our members to make informed choices about their privacy and use of WeWork's products

Experience:

  • Minimum 4 years PQE
  • Excellent academic credentials
  • Experience in a top-tier law firm or consulting firm or in-house environment advising clients on data privacy and cybersecurity issues (a combination is preferred)
  • Experience in technology, digital, information security, and consulting fields a plus
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple projects at once, and meet deadlines with excellent attention to detail
  • Deep knowledge of the GDPR and other data privacy regulations, and the ability to apply practically and commercially
  • Strong understanding of the interplay between legal and business risk
  • Ability to positively, effectively, and efficiently communicate complex legal concepts with a diverse array of cross-functional internal stakeholders
  • Fluency in German a plus
  • Ability to understand business needs, demonstrate sound judgment, and partner with the business teams to formulate solutions
  • Experience drafting and implementing policies
  • Passionate about technology and energized by the challenges of serving a dynamic, hyper-growth company
