DATA/COMMERCIAL leading firm - 3-5PQE - London

Our client is one of the world's leading firms. Their market-leading TMT team advises some of the largest companies in the world on their digital and technology needs. A big part of their practice focuses on assisting their clients in using data as an asset.

The group is well-stocked with technology and telecommunications lawyers, and they are now looking for a 3-5 years PQE associate to add strength to the specialist data practice. The role is expected to be around 40-50% focused on data-related work (data privacy issues and associated regulatory advice, data commercialisation and information governance (including cyber security)), and the remainder working with the wider TMT and outsourcing practice, advising on technology and telecommunications transactions (projects, M&A, joint ventures, collaborations, outsourcing and licensing), as well as commercial and digital work.

Our client is looking for a mid-level Associate with a strong commercial/tech background who is passionate about data. They are looking for somebody who combines strong legal expertise in technology law with an understanding on how to assist clients in commercialising data and exploiting it as an asset. To this end, the right candidate will have the understanding to "take a view" and assist the client with solid commercial advice; not just state what the law is.

Key responsibilities:

• Work on a range of matters across the Data, TMT & Outsourcing practices, in particular spending approximately 40-50% of your time on data-related matters
• Expected to lead and negotiate transactions with limited supervision
• Responsible for drafting discrete pieces of legal advice for clients with minimal amendments
• Encouraged to adopt a client-facing role
• Supervise and develop Junior Associates and Trainees

Qualifications required:

• 3-5 PQE
• Excellent academics
• Data, TMT and Outsourcing experience gained from within a leading private practice firm
• Excellent attention to detail
• High level of commercial awareness
• Track record of leading transactions
• Excellent drafting and communication skills
• Desire to be part of a busy, friendly team
