The Legal Services team at UAL is a central service team located in Kings Cross in Central St Martins, close to the student activity. The team provides a full range of legal services and advice across the university as well as its group companies on a wide range of commercial matters.
We have a mandate for a Senior Employment Counsel to join a growing Legal team and report to the General Counsel. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and talented employment lawyer with at least 4 years’ experience either in private practice or in house to take on the challenge of a new in house role that will predominately assist the Human Resources department. There are also opportunities to support the Legal Services team with a range of legal issues, such as the business demands.
Candidates will need substantial employment law expertise with a mix of both contentious and non-contentious work and broad commercial experience. You will require excellent drafting skills, an eye for detail, great communication skills and a keen understanding of the law. The key to success in this new role will be a collaborative approach and a can do attitude combined with an agile response to matters.
The role will involve, not exclusively:
- Advising on a wide range of employment law matters both contentious and non-contentious
- Drafting, advising on and negotiating ,as required, a variety of agreements, including contracts of employment, settlement agreements and general commercial agreements
- Undertaking complex and routine legal cases involving employment matters
- Reviewing and advising Human Resources on process and policies
- The creation of precedents and establishing know how to empower colleagues in Human Resources
- The monitoring of changes in employment law as they affect the university and implementing changes as required
- Engaging with colleagues, stakeholders and external legal advisors
- Guiding and training of junior legal team members on employment law matters
- Managing financial matters associated with the role
- And as a senior member of the University you will be expected to act in such a way as is reasonably necessary to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of the role.
