The Role

Due to an impending maternity leave, the company are seeking an experienced commercial lawyer in the capacity of Head of Legal.

Reporting to the CFO, you will be responsible for all aspects of the company’s Legal Department, including effectively managing the legal team and providing legal support across the business. You will be responsible for the company secretarial function and have a key role in the delivery of the company’s risk and compliance management and will update the executive board (either directly or via the CFO) on key risks to the business as and when they arise.

Furthermore, you will draft and advise on commercial contracts and have overall responsibility for ensuring that the Mamas & Papas brand is adequately protected along with all aspects of the company’s intellectual property.

You also have responsibility for the Health & Safety and Facilities team. This involves the management of the HSF function and regular meetings to ensure that the company is complying fully.

In addition you will be involved in both contentious and non-contentious intellectual property issues and trademark work, corporate transactions, company secretarial and regulatory compliance matters relating to day to day retail operations around the world.

The Candidate

To be considered for this role, you must be someone who:

  • is a UK qualified solicitor with a high quality, legal training from a respected large / medium sized commercial law firm or an in-house legal department;
  • has strong knowledge of commercial contracts and / or corporate law;
  • can work autonomously and with a sense of urgency; and
  • can translate legal advice to all internal employees including senior management.
