Location

Burges Salmon, is based in Bristol’s city centre 2 minutes stroll from Temple Meads train station. Here, you will be in the heart of Bristol with easy access to some of the best attractions the city has to offer, including the theatre, shopping, restaurants, museums and art galleries.

We are also interested in hearing from Scottish-qualified lawyers who would like to grow their careers in our ground-breaking new Edinburgh office. Our Scottish team will be fully integrated with our existing business and so some travel to Bristol will be required.

Team

Our Banking team offer a full complement of banking and finance legal services, which includes advising borrowers, lenders and sponsors on a variety of debt (and debt-related) transactions. These transactions vary in size from £1 million to £1 billion; our core market is debt of £20 million to £200 million. Our team of experts handle complex financing matters for clients on both a UK and cross-jurisdictional basis.

We take pride in the quality of our service, offering clear, effective solutions to our clients. We work collaboratively with experts from across the firm including corporate, real estate and tax.

Our banking lawyers act for banks, building societies, debt and pension funds and other financial institutions, alongside numerous PLCs and large corporate clients around the world. Including:

HSBC // Metlife // Lloyds Banking Group // National Express Group // Beechbrook Capital LLP // Natwest // Santander // National Australia Bank // Investec // Gravis Capital Partners

While the team is based in Bristol, most of our work originates in London and the rest of the UK. For cross-border matters, we work closely with our preferred firm international network.

Work

As a Banking Lawyer you will work collaboratively, in partnership with your clients and form your thinking around their needs to ensure we deliver the right solutions when it matters. You will combine your legal expertise with in-depth knowledge across a range of industry sectors to secure the right outcomes for our clients.

You will work as part of a collaborative team and are comfortable with taking instruction or leading others. You will actively continue to improve your technical skills, your understanding and application of the professional standards with the support of the Leadership and Development teams.

Key areas of expertise are:

• Real Estate Finance (including offices, hotels, student accommodation, care homes and housing)
• Project Finance (Energy and Infrastructure)
• Asset finance and asset backed lending
• B2B, Peer to Peer and private banking
• Derivatives and Leveraged and finance
• Regulatory advice
• Restructuring and insolvency
• We also regularly advise on mainstream corporate debt and security structures



Requirements

We look for individuals who have developed themselves and their capabilities, coupled with strong commercial and legal potential and relevant experience. You will have recent and relevant work experience focused on banking and financial transactions, which is likely to include good working knowledge of LMA standard form documentation. You will be a strong team player, able to manage a complex and varied workload effectively, and demonstrate a willingness to learn and be self-motivated.
