A leading technology regulator seeks the support of a Data Protection Officer to act as an 'expert on the subject and ensure compliance with GDPR. You will have gained at least 3 years PQE as a data protection lawyer with a range of legal skills including legal research, drafting and negotiation, as well as good commercial and technology experience. This role is a 3 day per week position with flexible time and great benefits.

The Role
As Data Protection Officer (DPO) you will oversee all UK and EU data protection law matters, in particular the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) whilst advising the Audit Committee and Executive Team on data protection matters. You will support the legal team in providing data protection legal advice in guidance to the organisation on compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998, the GDPR. You will draft, review and negotiate contracts, to ensure they are compliant and fit for purpose. You will support and advise the General Counsel and the legal team on regulatory developments that are likely to affect its area of work and/or its regulatory landscape. You will support the Head of Investigations and Enforcement in the management of investigations and enforcement casework, including coaching to Investigation Executives as appropriate. As part of your role you will provide technical legal advice on UK and EU law - particularly with regard to communications law, consumer law, payment services regulation, employment law, commercial law, privacy law.

The Candidate
Must have a minimum of 3 years PQE working as a data protection lawyer in addition to experience as a senior lawyer or In-House Counsel. Ideally you will have a wide range of legal skills including legal research, drafting and negotiation, as well as good commercial and technology experience. Some public law, regulatory and dispute resolution experience is highly advantageous but not essential.
