Senior Compliance & Risk Lawyer - 9 month FTC - London

Our client, a Top 50 International Law Firm, is looking to bring on board a Senior Compliance & Risk Lawyer for a 9 month contract in their London office.

The Firm's Compliance & Risk team is responsible for dealing with all client due diligence and conflicts queries. The role will have a strong anti-money laundering (AML) bias but will also involve providing advice on a variety of further risk management issues. The successful individual will work closely with the Compliance Partner and will also have some responsibility for supervising and training more junior members of the team.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Taking the lead in carrying out client due diligence on a full spectrum of clients to include individuals, companies and trusts
• Supervising the client due diligence checks carried out by other members of the team
• Liaising with clients directly when complex client due diligence issues arise and discussing effective solutions
• Providing legal advice to fee earners and partners on the scope of applicable anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing legislation
• Assisting with AML and wider Compliance training for fee earners, business support staff and partners
• Advising on reputational risk issues
• Working with the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) in carrying out research to be used in suspicious activity reports
• Advising on complex source of funds queries
• Advising on professional conduct matters
• Advising the Firm on intricate conflicts issues
• Supporting the development of new Compliance policies and strategies
• Providing advice to the Firm about the SRA Code of Conduct - such as letters of engagement, client care and terms of business
• File audits
• Keeping the risk register up to date
• Sharing day-to-day management of the team
• Running team meetings
• Providing training for the team about AML and conflicts issues

Successful candidates are likely to have upwards of 5 years' relevant AML and/or Compliance & Risk experience from a reputable law firm and be able to add value immediately. A passion for financial crime work would be of significant benefit - notably AML. Candidates should also be available immediately or at short notice.
