Job Details

Our client is a leading US law firm looking for privacy and compliance lawyer to provide in-house advice in relation to EU data protection regulations and Solicitors Regulation Authority compliance. This is a standalone role advising the UK and EU offices of the firm. Our client acknowledges that experience in both DP and Compliance is rare so someone with a data protection background also interested in compliance but not having actually worked in this area would be ideal.

This role can be PART-TIME or Full-time and offers regular hours and an excellent package.

Key responsibilities would include:

Data Protection:

  • Contributes to the implementation of the firm’s global privacy programme and subsequent monitoring.
  • Support the development, maintenance and revision of policies and procedures for the general operation of the privacy programme
  • Contribute to the privacy training
  • Assist in investigating and responding to reported privacy violations
  • Conducts risk assessments (including Privacy Impact Assessments) and analyses privacy regulations to identify areas for improvement, as needed
  • Oversees annual registration of the firm with the Information Commissioner’s Office
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable regulatory agency guidelines and laws.
  • Stays current on privacy topics and seeks out appropriate training, as necessary.

Solicitors Regulation Authority compliance:

  • Broadly, to ensure the firm adheres to the SRA Code of Conduct & Handbook and complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • To maintain a Risk Register which will identify, monitor and manage risk
  • To maintain a Breach Register which records breaches that have occurred and importantly what is being done to prevent it happening again
  • To maintain a Compliance Plan which is effectively the ‘office manual’ detailing relevant processes and policies to ensure SRA compliance
  • To complete the annual renewal of practising certificates and renewal of foreign lawyer registrations

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years PQE and strong data protection experience in-house or in private practice.

As part of EJ Legal’s candidate registration and care process all successful applications are responded to within 14 working days. If you have not been contacted within this timescale your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion. We may keep your details on our system on a confidential basis for future opportunities. If you would prefer us not to do this, please let us know.
