PORTAKABIN - York - In-House Lawyer
CapeClarke has been exclusively retained by Portakabin in its search for a new In-House Lawyer to join the team in the company's head office in York.
Who we are
Portakabin is Europe’s market-leading modular building innovator, a family owned business established in 1961 with more than 1,750 employees across seven countries and a turnover of c.£280 million.
Portakabin manufactures, sells and hires market-leading modular buildings for every application – from offices and schools to hospitals and retail outlets. As a pioneer of off-site construction techniques, it works with clients of all sizes in all sectors.
Portakabin has enjoyed spectacular year on year growth over recent years, and has great ambitions for the current strategy period and beyond, making this a truly exciting time to be joining the business.
Due to this significant growth and ambition, Portakabin is looking to appoint an in-house lawyer, to be based in the head office in York, to support the recently appointed General Counsel.
What are the key duties?
As the only other lawyer in the business, you will work closely with the General Counsel in advising the business on a wide range of contractual, legal and regulatory matters and strengthening and improving the approach to legal and commercial risk management across the Pan-European Portakabin business during an exciting period of strategic growth.
Specifically your role will include:
- Reviewing, advising on, and where necessary negotiating, construction contracts, including both bespoke third party documents and standard form construction contracts (JCT, NEC etc);
- Reviewing, advising on, and where necessary, negotiating a broad range of other commercial contracts with colleagues, customers and suppliers;
- Assisting with the creation of new tools to improve legal risk management across the business, including the development of a contract database; and
- Providing training and support on relevant legal matters to the commercial teams across the business, including compliance with existing and new legislation.
Is this role for me?
Given the nature of the role, we feel it would be good fit for a solicitor already working in a broad in-house position or someone from a construction, projects or commercial private practice background.
Given that this will be a position of responsibility within the business, you should be driven, confident, have excellent communication skills and possess the genuine gravitas so as to be able to provide a high quality and responsive service to the other parts of the Portakabin business.
Competitive salary and benefits dependent on experience.
