In-house Lawyer, Commercialisation

Impactful work with less impact on you.

Being part of Imperial College London means working on some of the most exciting pioneering discoveries. The Enterprise Division looks to offer the most advanced education and research collaborations. Working alongside organisations to apply our work to industry, we’ve developed a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem. It’s a home for businesses, researchers and the next generation of innovators to flourish. As an In-house Lawyer in this division, you’ll play a pivotal part in supporting this mission. You’ll guide the protection and successful commercialisation of our discoveries.

Your work will greatly impact society, so it’s crucial that you bring significant post-qualified experience to the role. With this, you’ll provide crucial advice on commercial matters. These include intellectual property protection, licensing and company creation in the development of research technologies, progressing their path to commercialisation and market adoption. You’ll also provide negotiation support and legal drafting of commercialisation agreements, helping student discoveries to reach the right market.

What you’ll do on a day-to-day basis really depends on the projects, so the scope of work is very wide. You’ll work with all faculty areas within the college – in particular the medical and pharmaceutical ones. So substantial experience of the commercial exploitation of scientific IP and commercial negotiation is essential. Just like your deal-making experience in a medical, life sciences and/or engineering technology environment.

But really, the key to your success will be your collaborative approach and your ability to establish effective relationships. You’ll work with commercial colleagues, counterparties, senior academics, industry clients and partners. And you’ll deliver excellent results with your systematic planning, attention to detail and influencing.

It’s really impactful work, but with flexible working options and great benefits, it won’t have an impact on you.

So take back control of your life as although this role is demanding we can offer you a real work life balance while you contribute towards making a positive transformative impact on society.
