BUSINESS AFFAIRS/TV PRODUCTION LAWYER

Our client, a popular commercial broadcaster, produces hundreds of hours of programmes. Its studio division produces content which is viewed all over the world.

You will be a key member of the Non-Scripted Business Affairs team who will negotiate and contract agreements with third parties (e.g. agents, talent, contributors, service companies, broadcasters etc.) supporting a diverse range of productions and working closely with the production teams throughout the creative process, from development through to delivery.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • To negotiate and contract a broad range of deals in a timely fashion, to a high standard. Work will include a wide range of agreements including talent and contributor agreements, location agreements, access arrangements and other underlying agreements and deals with rights holders.
  • To liaise and work closely with the Head of Business Affairs, other members of the Non-Scripted Business Affairs team and the broader commercial legal teams across multiple sites. You will support the Head of Business Affairs, providing timely and accurate advice and information when required.
  • To liaise and work closely with relevant production teams with regard to individual programmes, providing trusted advice on legal and business affairs implications of programmes, to anticipate any legal and rights concerns and to offer solutions to resolve these challenges.
  • To provide general commercial and legal advice in a cogent and well-structured manner, particularly in relation to copyright, trademarks and clearance issues associated with productions and distribution.

You will be a qualified lawyer, or equivalent, with a minimum of 1 years post qualification experience and with business affairs experience. You will be an excellent negotiator with experience of and an ability to foster and maintain strong relationships with key contacts both internal and external to the business. A skilful drafter of contracts, you will have a sound understanding of the applicable law and commercial parameters of deals and strong attention to detail. You will be someone with commercial sense and a proven record in successfully and quickly concluding deals. You will be able to resolve problems under pressure and make rapid accurate assessments and will have the ability to multi-task and define priorities.
