The General Medical Council (GMC) helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. We support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards, and take action when they are not met.

From supporting investigations, to managing cases, you’ll enjoy a varied range of responsibilities and make a positive impact on medical practice nationwide.

Directorates across the GMC will turn to you as a trusted source of expertise, advice, and occasional training. You will play a key role in ensuring we adhere to relevant law and regulations.

You will gather evidence and construct cases for presentation before the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS), Investigation Committee and Registration Panel. You’ll also be accountable for conducting litigation. This will include defending applications for judicial review and appeals to the High Court (instructing Counsel as appropriate).

A qualified solicitor or barrister, entitled to practise in England and Wales, you have a proven talent for investigating and constructing cases for hearing, and dealing with witnesses and evidence.

Ideally, you’d have experience of working in a regulatory environment. You’ll certainly demonstrate excellent communication and influencing skills. You’d also bring a professional, highly organised approach to all you do - from interacting with individuals at all levels, through to legal drafting.

In return, you’ll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. We offer an attractive salary and benefits package to find out more please click here

The scheduled start date for these positions is 15 July or 9th September 2019. Please note all successful candidates will need to be available for full time induction for the first three weeks of their employment.

We strongly believe that diversity of background and experience contributes to the broader collective perspective that will consistently lead to us being a better regulator. We are working hard to increase the diversity of our staff, and also the diversity of those we work with wherever we can and we would actively encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply.

The GMC is a charity registered in England and Wales (1089278) and Scotland (SC037750).
