Qualified Lawyer (Legal Officer) role in London Local Authority, temporary.

This Local Authority based in London will allow you to work within a team of dedicated people, creating the opportunity for you to help towards giving back to the public through providing quality legal advice pertaining to Civil and Criminal Litigation, Housing and Anti-Social Behaviour.

Your new role

This temporary role will require you to handle a mixed caseload of two of the following areas of law: Civil Litigation, Criminal Litigation and Housing and Anti-Social Behaviour. You will be providing expert advice relating to these areas on a daily basis, and therefore, providing the Council with a trustworthy lawyer who will aim to unceasingly improve Legal Services allowing the Council to reach its full potential.

Further to managing and preparing your caseload you will be expected to provide advice to colleagues and effectively represent the Council before the Tribunals and Courts. Due to the seniority of the role, you will be attending Executive meetings and writing up reports where necessary. You will also partake in training of new employees and cover any required workload of other colleagues.

This opportunity is a three month role with an opportunity for further extension.

What you'll need to succeed

You will be a Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives experienced in at least two of the following legal areas: Civil Litigation, Criminal Litigation and Housing and Anti-Social behaviour. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate their previous experience in these areas. You will also have advocacy experience and be able to use MS Office applications well and quickly.

Being a clear communicator both orally and in writing is essential, with good organisation skills being key with the level of caseload being high. There will be situations that will require you to work under pressure, and being able to maintain a level-head is key to performing well within this role.
