Save the Children International’s legal team is continuing to grow! We are looking to appoint a new Legal Counsel to join the central London-based legal team of our charity. As a team of 12, we support a large international charity, which works on the ground in over 120 countries to help children affected by crises, as well as those that need better healthcare, education and child protection. In 2017 alone, Save the Children’s combined revenues amounted to more than US $2.2 billion, and its procurement-related spend alone was approximately US $400 million.
The role is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with a rapidly globalising procurement function. In particular, SCI has created a high performing organisation (HPO) project team with responsibility for globalising the procurement and supply chain functions, upgrading SCI’s global systems and more generally, identifying opportunities for helping the organisation work more efficiently and effectively.
The senior procurement legal counsel role will have the opportunity to develop and shape the role as the successful candidate wishes. As the primary link between the SCI legal team and the procurement function, he/she will be responsible for managing the overall legal team relationship with the wider procurement function, and advising on the legal team’s strategic response to HPO matters, including advising on the design and implementation of new systems, creating legal infrastructure to support global procurement requirements and identifying and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
This role will appeal to anyone who wants to be part of a strong legal team working in a dynamic and unique business environment with responsibility to help create global functions supporting a truly international business. This is a great opportunity for anyone with already existing general contracting/commercial/procurement experience who wants to either use or grow that capability as part of creating SCI’s global procurement function. It would also be suitable for those already in the sector or looking to transfer from either in-house or private practice roles.
For this senior procurement legal counsel role, you will need to be a solicitor or barrister qualified in England and Wales or a common law jurisdiction, ideally with at least eight years’ PQE.
On a personal level you will need to be a team player with a lot of drive, flexible legal skills and a strong interest in the international development/charitable sectors.
The salary offered is in line with the sector benchmark, and includes a company pension scheme and 30 days’ annual leave.
