OVO is a collection of leading energy technology companies determined to create a world with clean, affordable energy for everyone.  The need to transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy is the biggest, most pressing challenge facing humankind. Our technology will enable grids to be powered by 100% renewable energy, and give our customers the ability to power their lives whilst protecting the planet.

OVO’s recent growth - through acquisitions, tech innovation and international expansion - has resulted in our operations being divided into separate divisions.  We are building a new legal support structure to ensure we meet the continuing needs of these divisions, with dedicated legal teams for each.  With this in mind, we are creating additional opportunities:

Legal Counsel (Retail), Bristol or London, 3-7PQE*

OVO Retail has grown rapidly over the past decade to become the largest UK independent energy supplier with over 1.5 million customers. But OVO Retail is not simply an energy retail business: it is a group of innovative, dynamic companies, investing in technology innovation to reimagine how energy should be controlled in the digital age.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our retail team.  As a consumer-facing business, there is a diverse landscape of law and regulation which governs the way we run our business.  You will support our retail product and marketing teams in relation to all proposition development, advertising, marketing, sales promotions, and customer offers across all of our brands.  This will involve drafting terms of supply for our energy and tech products, advising on advertising and marketing campaigns, and advising on a full range of data and GDPR related matters.

You will also work on a diverse range of commercial arrangements such as technology procurement, outsourcing, goods supply and general service agreements. You will be involved end-to-end on deals, from understanding the commercial context and structure to formulating and negotiating the contracts themselves.

The successful candidate will have at least 3 years’ post-qualification experience and will have trained and qualified into the commercial/TMT team of a reputable law firm.  In addition, the ideal candidate will have gained experience in a busy, in-house team within a consumer business.  From a technical perspective, experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts is a pre-requisite as well as exposure to advisory experience in the areas of retail and consumer compliance (sales and marketing rules and GDPR).

This role requires a self-driven, agile and commercially aware individual who is able to multi-task, particularly under pressure. You must be a team player, but equally, enjoy working autonomously when required.  You must understand the priorities of working in a growing company and bring a “can-do” proactive approach to your work.
