Legal Counsel

THE ROLE:

This role will initially report to the Senior Counsel, Legal Affairs Europe based in the European HQ of Sony Europe BV based in Weybridge, UK and will be part of a small legal team tasked with assisting the pan-European business interests of Sony Electronics, with particular focus on the Professional Solutions Europe division.   

JOB PURPOSE:

To provide professional legal advice on a pan-European basis to relevant departments of Sony Europe using your own professional knowledge, experience and initiative as part of Legal Affairs Europe. Due to the small nature of this team, this role involves the ability to independently deliver and manage personal workload, but includes possibilities for future development and acquisition of new skills and experience.

Working with one of Sony’s most exciting business areas, the Professional Solutions Europe division deals with the pan-European sales and marketing of Sony’s Professional and Media products and technology-based solutions and services. PSE focusses on Media Solutions; Sports Innovation; Healthcare Solutions; and Corporate, Education & Theatre Solutions – whether you are watching the news, going to the cinema, waiting for the ref to watch a replay or going into hospital for an operation Sony is delivering innovative solutions that touch all our lives.  The role therefore includes advising on responses to tender and the negotiation and drafting of individual high value sales and technology services contracts with direct customers in both the public and private sector, with an increasing emphasis on the delivery of software based and virtual solutions. In addition, you will be required to advise on contractual and competition law issues arising in respect of the business division’s sale of products and services via its distribution channel throughout Europe.

The role involves liaising with and building relationships with all levels of employees, from board level downwards, in a manner which ensures that Sony complies with its legal obligations and protects its commercial risks, whilst at the same time striving for technological and commercial innovation.

You will be required to support or cover for other members of Legal Affairs Europe, where required and should have the flexibility and ability to take on new areas of responsibility and specialism as and when required.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

• A qualified lawyer with c2 years post qualification experience.
• Strong contract drafting, negotiating and presentation skills (using English language).
• Experience of working with media and/or technology companies would be advantageous.
• Commercial approach to legal issues.
• Excellent English language skills, additional European language skills would be an asset.
