CLIENT

Our client is one of the world’s leading businesses involved in the sourcing, trading and shipping of commodities.  They have operations in over 60 countries world-wide that supply and trade a wide range of different commodity products.  Their Singapore office is the regional hub for all shipping and trading activities and now numbers more than 80 people.  With a large team of traders, charterers, operators etc the legal team is at the heart of the businesses operations and now needs a new member to handle an ever-increasing workload.

POSITION
 

The successful candidate will have a varied workload covering dry shipping, commodities trading and more general corporate / commercial matters, potentially including M&A.

They will be expected to work closely with traders, charterers and operators on all aspects of the supply and trading of commodity products.

This will include but is not limited to drafting and negotiation of documents, structuring transactions, managing disputes, advising senior members of the business on “live” issues and liaising with external advisers and counsel.

CANDIDATE
 

You will be Common or Civil law qualified with 2+ PQE and an ability to work autonomously whilst still being part of a global legal team of over 40 lawyers.

Ideally you will have covered dry / wet shipping, commodities trading or corporate / commercial matters.

Candidates with a transactional M&A or commercial background and an enthusiasm for the commodities sector will be considered.

A solid understanding of carriage of goods by sea is advantageous as is any experience of the shipping and maritime or commodities worlds.

In-house experience on a secondment or permanent basis is a plus.
