A multi-billion dollar US global telecommunications and technology business.
Position Overview
The Head of Legal, EMEA and Assistant General Counsel will provide leadership of the Legal function for our clients Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. The role will be responsible for managing a team of attorneys and contract professionals (six) in the delivery of a wide range of legal services and business advice in support of the EMEA region. The individual will serve as a key member of both the EMEA Leadership Team and the global Legal Department.
Specific Responsibilities
- Serve as a legal and business advisor to the VP and General Manager, EMEA and the EMEA Leadership Team.
- Manage a regional team of attorneys and contract professionals in the execution of the defined legal strategy and deliverables, including:
- Negotiate, draft and structure a wide range of complex commercial contracts with customers, partners and suppliers – most of which are negotiated opposite the world’s leading telecoms networks operators, integrators, research and education institutions, and governments across EMEA.
- Provide legal and business advice and support for the operations of the EMEA region, including with respect to:
- Organisational structure and go-to-market strategy.
- Corporate compliance and governance (fcpa, ukba, itar, bis/ofac, boycott, data protection).
- Labor and employment (tupe/ard, managed exits, reorganisations).
- Environmental (rohs, weee).
- Real estate.
- Insurance and general commercial issues
- Assist in the supervision of litigation matters (primarily commercial and employment-related), including management of external counsel.
Location: City of London
Experience required:
- Common law qualified with broad based experience in corporate and commercial law matters with exposure to IT/Software/Technology or Integrated sectors.
- Previous experience working in the corporate or commercial department of a top law firm or a leading (higher rated) niche technology law firm essential, plus experience working in-house.
- Experience working in the corporate legal department of a public company, and US GAAP and revenue recognition rules is strongly preferred.
