JUUL Labs (“JUUL”) is the San Francisco-headquartered brainchild of Stanford graduates, who have designed an e-cigarette product with the goal of entirely eliminating smoking. Due to its success, JUUL has fast become the number one vapour product in the United States and is now looking to expand. JUUL’s mission is to improve the lives of the world’s one billion adult smokers.

As a result of rapid growth, JUUL seeks to recruit an Employment Counsel, EMEA, based in their Central London office, reporting into the Global Head of Employment Law.

The successful candidate will have high cognitive capability and the ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of the Company’s business and products and the applicable industry developments and requirements
  • Provide day-to-day legal advice and counsel to HR and the wider business on a variety of employment matters including non-compete clauses and negotiation of employee packages
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with a broad range of cross-functional stakeholders to ensure compliance with employment laws across EMEA
  • Draft, harmonise and implement standardised employment-related templates, including offer letters, confidentiality agreements, performance reviews, disciplinary, employee handbooks and employment policies
  • Manage outside counsel in employment litigation and provide risk assessment and strategic guidance to internal clients
  • Partner with HR and Compliance to conduct workplace investigations
  • Assist with employment diligence for potential business acquisitions, and support integration activities for completed acquisitions
  • Partner with Compliance, HR and Payroll on data protection issues related to holding employee data
  • Stay current on employment law developments and evolving best practices, and provide training and updates to the HR team as needed

The ideal candidate will have a strong academic record and will have trained at a well-regarded global UK or US law firm. European qualified lawyers will also be considered.

You are likely to have 7-11 + years’ PQE as a specialised Employment Lawyer and will either still be in private practice or have already moved in-house to a multi-national business. If you are already in-house you will have spent at least 5 years working as an Employment Lawyer in private practice.

Of particular interest are applicants with experience of advising on EMEA-related employment matters. Experience of advising clients in a highly regulated sector such as life sciences or the financial sector is desirable but not essential, as is fluency in another European language. Applicants must be willing to undertake occasional travel.
