The purpose of the position is to assist and support the UK Legal Counsel in any and all legal matters relating to the UK Property portfolio, with a particular emphasis on construction matters (both non-contentious and contentious). 

Role Accountabilities:

Legal Risk

  • Support the UK legal counsel with drafting, negotiating and reviewing legal construction documents pertaining to developments, including building/development contracts, trade contracts, consultant appointments, collateral warranties/third party rights, bonds, guarantees and other security instruments
  • To understand and implement HB Reavis form of procurement, providing associated legal and strategic advice
  • To understand and assist in implementing construction tendering processes
  • Liaise with relevant internal departments (procurement, design, development, construction, leasing, financing, divestment etc.) to ensure that where legal risks have been identified, appropriate courses of action have been taken
  • Assist the UK Legal Counsel in providing legal protection and risk management advice to management, especially on contract management and dispute resolution
  • Provide and interpret legal information, conduct training where requested and disseminate appropriate legal requirements to staff
  • To undertake special projects and investigations at the request of UK Legal Counsel, Chief Executive Officer for United Kingdom and/or Group Head of Legal/Group Deputy Head of Legal
  • To undertake any other relevant legal duties or responsibilities either directly or liasing with and managing external lawyers 

Policy Development

  • Assist the UK Legal Counsel in advising management on legal implications of internal policies and procedures, with a particular emphasis on construction procurement
  • Assist in reviewing and drafting contracts, agreements and internal policies and ensure that they are in compliance with statutory or legal requirements
  • Assist in the preparation and ongoing management of precedent documentation
