Legal Counsel
A top 20 law firm is seeking a corporate commercial lawyer who is considering a move away from the traditional fee earning route.
The role will be varied and interesting and will be advising the law firm itself on a range of contract and risk related issues. This could be looking at terms with clients, engagement letters, dealing with the SRA, liaising with external parties if there are suspicious activities, drafting the firms risk and compliance policies, providing training on risk issues and then advising on other changes to laws or legislation, for example GDPR or Brexit.
If you enjoy working with commercial contracts and advising a business on commercial as well as legal aspects and do not enjoy time recording and billable hours, this is the perfect role for you!
The successful Legal Counsel can look forward to working in a great team, with support when required, but also allowing autonomy. The team have all moved from fee earning roles at a top city firms into this team and see how easily the skills gained by a corporate commercial lawyer can be transferred.
The Legal Counsel role would particularly suit a candidate who wants to work as an in-house lawyer but who ultimately likes the law firm environment. Hours will be excellent, it is truly 40 hours a week, and this can be structured flexibly - starting later or earlier to accommodate childcare arrangements, or working a day from home for example.
Although the Legal Counsel role is 5 days a week, if you think the role sounds interesting but are ideally looking for 4 days it is still worth applying and having a conversation about the role.
It is EJ Legal’s policy, as a matter of courtesy to respond to all applications within three working days. However because of the volume of applications, we are sometimes unable to respond to individual candidates. If we have not contacted you within three working days your application has been unsuccessful and your details have not been retained. Please apply for any other position that you may see in the future. EJ Legal is a Recruitment Agency and is advertising this vacancy on behalf of one of its Clients. Thank you.
