Your new role
You will be one of two Lead Lawyers, who will be a part of the in-house Legal Team that acts as primary legal advisers to all staff including the Deputy Pensions Ombudsman and the Executive Board.
You will be responsible for reviewing and supervising difficult cases, raising complex issues and ensuring processes are followed and decisions are reached based on sound legal analysis. The main thrust of your role will be to be involved in policy issues such as driving forward legislative changes for The Pensions Ombudsman and liaising on a variety of matters with stakeholder and government departments.
You will support The Pensions Ombudsman in following through any legal consequences of Determinations that are appealed; and act as a sounding board for colleagues, assisting them to identify, monitor and mitigate risks. You will have some management oversight.

You will be qualified as a solicitor or barrister with at least four years’ post qualification in one of the following areas: pensions, litigation, disputes resolution, regulatory law (preferably financial services regulation) or public law.
Although you will not be involved in directly managing the Lawyers, you should have management experience and will be involved in mentoring and coaching them to develop and increase their skill set.
You will need first-class interpersonal, customer service and communication skills, both in writing and on the telephone and be able to interpret law and translate it across in a way that is practical and jargon free. You will also have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and possess the ability to give presentations when necessary.
