This is a fantastic opportunity for a corporate M&A lawyer who is looking for a new challenge in a new location.  This elite City firm has a successful office in Tokyo and is looking for an English qualified lawyer to join them as Counsel, with strong partnership prospects on offer for the right candidate.

The Tokyo office regularly acts on high profile outbound (Japanese investors investing outside of Japan) and inbound (foreign investors into Japan) mandates, infrastructure related matters and real estate matters.  The team works closely with the antitrust and international arbitration teams and they are consistently rated as one of the leading transactional teams in international firms in Tokyo. The Transactional Associates work on a wide variety of transactions, including large, complex public and private M&A transactions, private equity and large infrastructure projects.

Most of the work will have an international and cross-border dimension and will range from some of the largest and most complex transactions to smaller deals which provide greater responsibility.  They encourage a broad spread of work and offer the opportunity to advise clients across a number of sector groups, including consumer and healthcare; energy and natural resources; financial institutions; infrastructure and transport; leisure; private equity; real estate; telecommunications, media and technology and others.

The client base is very  diverse and includes:

  • Japanese trading houses, manufacturers and major corporations, across a range of industry sectors
  • International companies and financial institutions
  • Private equity, funds and government entities

To be considered for this role, you will be a senior associate/Counsel and will have gained at least nine years’ PQE in a leading City corporate practice.  You will have had broad ranging M&A experience.  You may be at a crossroads in your career with limited career opportunities at your current firm.  If you are looking for a fresh challenge and would like to work overseas, this role will offer a fantastic opportunity to work in an exciting city with real career prospects.  If you are ready for the challenge, get in touch to find out more!
