A British multi-national company, at the forefront of modern technology and sustainable solutions, is looking for an In-house legal counsel - Ethics and Compliance - 12 month FTC to join the business. As part of a company that is a constituent of the FTSE 100, you will need to provide legal support on a global basis to their Group Function. The office is in Central London.

You will join the Ethics and Compliance Department within Group Legal and be responsible for supporting the Assistant General Counsel in providing legal advice and assurance to the business in relation to various legal compliance and reputational risk management matters, with a particular focus on anti-bribery and corruption, competition, financial crime, modern slavery and conflicts of interest.

The In-house legal counsel - Ethics and Compliance - 12 month FTC role

 

  • Support the development, implementation and enforcement of the Group's Ethics & Compliance programme from a U.K. and RoW perspective (excluding the U.S. and China).
  • Provide high quality, practical and commercial advice/guidance regarding legal compliance risk areas and reputational risk management issues to a range of stakeholders within the global organisation (including regional management teams).
  • Assist with development and implementation of policies, procedures and other internal guidance to ensure they reflect any updates to relevant local laws and are in alignment with the overall goals of the Ethics & Compliance programme.
  • Obtain appropriate advice from external counsel where necessary including if foreign legal advice or deep subject matter expertise is required.
  • Review activities and transactions to ensure that business is being conducted in an ethical and compliant manner and that policies and procedures are followed to reduce the risks of non-compliance with laws, regulations and reputational risk.
  • Help to ensure consistency of approach to legal compliance issues across Sectors.
  • Support internal investigations into allegations of non-compliance with the Ethics & Compliance programme.
  • Conduct periodic visits to sites globally (typically involving travel ~10 % of time).
  • Participate in the development and delivery of compliance training and awareness programmes.
  • Assist the Group Ethics & Compliance team in supporting the Ethics Ambassador network.

The In-house legal counsel - Ethics and Compliance - 12 month FTC lawyer

 

  • Qualified lawyer in England & Wales, with experience advising in relation to legal compliance risk areas.
  • Experience working in an international environment.
  • Experience considering and working to resolve ethical issues in a business context.
  • Negotiation and influencing skills, able to win hearts and minds whilst adopting a legally compliant commercial approach. Open, direct communication style: accessible and approachable.
  • Experience in producing training materials and delivering face-to-face training in a business focused and engaging way.
  • Independent working style and the will and strength of character to ensure plans are implemented in full.
  • Readiness to roll sleeves up whenever necessary to get the job done.
  • Ability to energise others by demonstrating passion and commitment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Flexible, organised and a team player.
  • Impeccable judgment, ethics and morals.
